If you look around online, some of the most popular environmental related blogs are very scientific, like treehugger dot com. They touch on a lot of highly scientific topics pertaining to this topic and I think that it’s great that there are resources out there where you can go and learn about the science behind why protecting the world that we live in is a good thing.

Green Living Just Makes Sense

For me, being a good steward to the environment just makes intuitive sense. The rising gas prices, smog around major cities and now even the suburbs, and global warming the affects of our industry driven lifestyle are becoming more apparent with each passing day. If we all take an active effort to change things about our habits and consumer decisions, we can begin to make an impact.

Eco Friendly Living in the Kitchen

So, this blog is all about sharing tips and ideas on how you can do your part. I thought I’d leave you with a few right now.

  • Go organic. When you make the decision to buy organic food and natural textiles, you make a responsible choice. Chemicals normally used in agriculture harm the environment and our bodies. Even if you can’t go completely organic, if you make it an effort to buy a few organic items each time you shop it can still make an impact.
  • Grow your own plants. Do you find organic product to be too expensive? Why not start your own organic garden? Even if you don’t have a lot of land, you can still grow a few plants even if you only have a window box or a balcony. One healthy organic tomato plant, for example, can actually yield quite a bit. To save even more money, consider starting all the plants from seed yourself.
  • Eat healthy. When I load my grocery cart with pre packaged meals and other processed food, I always wind up spending twice as much. For example, one box of prepackaged rice pilaf mix costs about $1.40 or so where I am from. Buying the ingredients to make it myself costs $6 or so but from those ingredients I can make at least 5 batches of pilaf if not more.

Can you think of other ways to make your kitchen more “green”?
