Seems like a strange way to start a post doesn’t it? I was just reading the extremely vintage 50 Things Kids Can do to Save the Earth. I read it back when I was a kid and the first chapter inspired my middle school science project – Acid Rain. What happened to it? All we hear about now is global warming and “going green” – which I’ve come to look at as the current trends in environmental stewardship.
Well, Acid Rain still exists. In fact, it’s worse than ever. In case you don’t know what it is – the simple explanation is that it is formed when pollution enters into the clouds and turns rain acidic. The aftermath of it is that it can kill plants and animals and cause all kinds of ecosystem repercussions. If you want more information on it, the EPA has a good page which explains it very well. I can’t do it justice.
Anyway, I bring this up because it helps give some background as to the why. I can talk all I want about saving money on energy, being good to the environment, etc etc. But if it doesn’t mean anything to us, we might not do what we need to do. Understanding what happens when we abuse the planet makes our actions more meaningful and more inspired.
