Up until a few years ago, eco friendly clothing was terrible. I love clothes and fashion and though I wanted to like the clothes that were available, I really couldn’t. They featured dowdy colors, scratchy textures, and certainly were not very fashion forward.

Things have changed.

Today there are plenty of emerging top designers with industry experience who are embracing the organic lifestyle and creating clothes that are eco friendly. In order to celebrate this, I created a Squidoo Lens highlighting my favorite eco friendly clothes. They’re super stylish and great for the environment.

When you shop, keep in mind these tips:

  • Your style. Always stay true to your personal style and colors. The new organic clothes allow you to do this because the marketplace is filled with options.
  • Make sure it’s truly organic. A good strategy to use is to make sure the fabrics are truly organic. Be aware that just because something is “natural” doesn’t make it eco friendly. “Natural” and “organic” can mean two different things.
  • Natural fabrics. One thing to be conscious of is the type of fabric used in the clothing. Is it natural? Is this “natural fabric” also organic? Bear in mind that organic is always best.
  • Natural dyes. Typical industrial dyes can be really hard on the environment. Natural dyes, however, are a lot kinder. Be sure that the clothes you buy include natural dyes as well as natural and organic textiles.

Does finding fashionable clothes amidst all this mean doom for the fashionistas among us? Not at all! There are some really great styles out there.
